People build houses to live comfortably. Just to make sure a ‘roof’ is on their head, under which they can live happily ever after. So, a roof has been a major design consideration while designing a building. In the ancient time people use timbers and in some areas grass to build houses. And at the beginning of the development of engineering design concepts, flat roof is the common roof structure. Flat roofs mean a flat or horizontal covering upon the house or building. Which usually make of re-enforced concretes? In some cases, CI sheets are also used. And it is the most common types of roof, which is used all over the world. The main cause is it is easy to build and economic compared to other types of roofs.

There are several types of flat roofs. Such as: Asphalt build up, EPDM, Modified bitumen, PVC, TPO membrane roofing, Coal-tar pitch build up roof etc.

The main thing about the flat roof is that as it is horizontal, so there must be slight inclination so that water can run off easily. And they main problem about a roof is its longevity and strength, with decreases if there is moisture. So, it should be build with such type of material that does not absorb water. But, there is still some problem about flat roof which is, it may be effective in hot countries but, in cold countries where snow falls is regular it may be dangerous. Snow will deposit on the roof and ultimately results cracking and destructions. So, it is not a good idea of using or building flat roof cold countries. Because, then there need regular cleaning of the roofs and also other materials must need to be used so that, snow can’t make any harm. But, it is costly. That’s why in cold countries sloped roof are common.

The benefits of the TPO flat roofs are: Full room space can be used under the roof; the roof-top can be used for vegetation or just to sit and for walking place. Solar panels can also be placed easily. Flat roofs, need to be maintained regularly. If there is water than drained it within 24-48 hours. After storm of heavy rainfall check the roof if there is any crack or other damage. Regular checking of roofs for deformities and cracks and repairing immediately are must be done. If proper care and management can be taken than your roof will last long and you will be able to live under a safe ‘roof’.

So many perish from the heartless onslaught of El Paso Gutter trash. Left with nothing, not even a memory they have an incredible suicide propensity that cant be stopped. But some DO survive. They are NOT the person they once were……but then how could they be?!! Surviving alone elevates these precious few into the sphere of tracker, hunter, exterminator. Always on the lookout for Gutter Trash from El Paso TX. Heed their warning, NEVER act alone, and if you witness an extermination and bagging of El Paso Gutter Trash, remember, YOU SAW NOTHING!

There are several key factors to consider when searching for the best commercial roofing company and system available. Two such factors include the relationship built between the building owner and the roofing specialists, and the programs offered to customers regarding regular inspections and proper maintenance of one’s new roof systems. The following are some guidelines to use in your search for the right roofing company for your specific roofing needs.

The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) believes that the most effective way to keep a roof performing for an extended period of time is to go with a roof company that not only uses and applies a superior roofing system, but one that creates a formal and long-term relationship between the building owner and the roof contractor. So, how do you know when you have found professional roof contractors? NRCA gives a few tips on picking out the professional high quality roofing consultants from the ordinary everyday roofing companies.

A professional roofing contractor is someone who understands and follows the local building practices. They understand the local business environment and know how to complete the work necessary. On top of that, they not only know and understand their own roof coating, they also understand other roofing systems and will recommend different roofing types that will best suite a particular building.

A proficient commercial roofing company also has a trained and experienced workforce that they can verify with documentation. They should also respond quickly to any roof leaks or roof repairing needs or concerns. Finally, you should look for a roofing contractor that is well established in the community. They work in, and give back to, his/her local community.

For metal roofs to perform at their best requires a proper design, quality materials, and quality application of the roof coatings. For a roof to perform successfully over an extended period of time, it is critical to establish a program of regular inspections and proper roof maintenance. Finding a roofing company that provides its customers with a formal long-term maintenance agreement is your best way to ensure satisfactory post-installation roof performance, not going with a company that only provides its customers with a warranty. Warranties do not necessarily provide assurance of satisfactory roof performance. More times than not, you will find that the warranty contains provisions which significantly limit the warrantor’s liability and the consumers remedies in the event that a problem or roof leak arises. Unlike a warranty, a roofing maintenance program offers building owners many advantages. Opposite of a warranty, a maintenance program is proactive rather than reactive. It can help to identify problems at their early stages rather than waiting until it has grown to be a large-scale problem. With regular maintenance to your roof, sources and causes of leaks can be seen and addressed before a problem occurs. You will also find that with a maintenance program, response times to address roof repairs are greatly improved. With warranties on the other hand, it can take time for a repair call to be processed and during that processing time your roofing repairs go unsolved. Finally, a maintenance program allows for a planned, organized approach to management of a roof asset—and allows for responsible, timely preparations of long-term capital expenditures.

I placed my camera in the gutter at ground level and fired off to see what I would get. It worked reasonably well, but the depth of field needs sorting out. This is a technique I will try again in future.

by Crazyfinn36

In many cases, some homeowners might choose to ignore their gutters for extended periods. However, this is a bad idea because gutters work to collect water that falls on the roof and divert it from the home. If the gutters are ignored, the homeowner could find himself faced with water damage, roofing problems and foundation issues, all of which can be costly in the grand scheme of home repairs. Therefore, it’s important to clean out your gutters as needed.

Gutter cleaning

If you’re a homeowner, one of your least favorite DIY home maintenance may be gutter cleaning. Over the course of the year, a lot of leaves, twigs and other debris can collect in gutters. Adding in a degree of snow melt or rainwater, you may be facing a grimy accumulation of dirt and muck that you probably have no choice but to scoop out by hand.

Not only is gutter cleaning disgusting, in some cases, it can also be dangerous. People often use a tall ladder to reach their gutters and remove any built-up gunk accordingly. Since ladders can easily shake and fall, those brave homeowners who choose to clean their own gutters are actually subjecting themselves to a serious degree of injury.

In general, the more trees around a house, the more often the gutters will need to be cleaned. The extent to which gutter cleaning is necessary varies by region. In some areas, homeowners might find it sufficient to clean their gutters once during the spring and once during the fall. In other cases, a home’s gutters might need to be cleaned four to six times a year. And although gutter cleaning companies are available to spare homeowners the unpleasant task, the services tend to come at a cost.

Gutter protectors

If you’re tired of dealing with the danger and disgust in gutter cleaning but don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars each year on a gutter service, you might want to consider using gutter protectors, which more and more homeowners have been embracing in recent years. Also known as gutter toppers and gutter guards, gutter protectors are screen-like devices that sit on top of gutters to protect them from accumulating dirt and debris. Since gutters need to be able to deflect water as necessary, most modern-day gutter protectors are efficiently designed to allow water to enter gutters while preventing leaves and twigs from getting in.

A.W. Ross, the controller of Charlotte, North Carolina’s Lundberg Roofing, Windows & Siding, thinks that on a whole, gutter protectors can take the majority of the hassle out of gutter cleaning by preventing most debris from getting sucked into gutters. However, he also warns that gutters are not maintenance-free. Even with gutter protectors, you’ll still need to clean out your gutters twice a year on average.

The cost involved

Although there is a debate on the effectiveness, most homeowners would at least be willing to try gutter protectors if it weren’t for the significant cost involved. However, given the prohibitive price for the nifty devices, many people can’t help but wonder if they are actually worth the money.

From a cost perspective, gutter cleaners don’t come with an immediate payback period, but rather an eventual one. While the price of gutter cleaners can vary from region to region, homeowners can expect to pay from ,500 to ,000 for gutter toppers on a one-story, 2000-square foot home. The larger the property, the higher that price is likely to climb. Considering that most people don’t tend to spend more than 0 per year on professional gutter cleanings, it can take awhile to recoup the upfront costs of gutter protector installation.

For those who prefer to tackle gutter cleaning alone, the idea of shelling out so much money can be financially unsettling. But on the other hand, paying for gutter protectors is basically akin to paying for the convenience of not having to deal with muck and grime on such a large scale, so you have to admit that it certainly sounds tempting.

How to Select a Gutter System

Good gutters should to be an integral part of a home’s exterior. Old, damaged or defective rain gutters can cause a lot of damage. When a gutter clogs, the water is not diverted properly and overflows into either the house or foundation. This can cause wood rot, foundation problems and landscaping erosion. In addition to damage to your home, a rain gutter clogged with soggy leaves and debris is the perfect breeding ground for mold and mildew, as well as mosquitoes and other pests. When considering a new gutter system, a home owner must take several things into account: among them, price, aesthetics and how the rain gutter needs to perform depending on the area in which they live. Does the area have extreme temperatures, heavy snow and rain, or ice storms? Are there a lot of trees in the vicinity? All these questions need to be taken into consideration when deciding on what type of rain gutter system to install.

Design

If the primary purpose of gutters is to collect water from the roof and direct it away from the home where it could cause damage, then the first thing you want to know is whether or not your gutter system is properly designed. Good systems drain in such a way as to keep water out from under your foundation while keeping your fascia, siding and paint dry.

Material

There are several different types of material used to make rain gutters.

Vinyl is great for do-it-yourselfers and can be found at home-improvement centers. The gutters can be easily installed by the homeowner because they are simple to cut and configure. The drawback to a vinyl gutter is that it is susceptible to brittleness with age and extreme cold.

Aluminum, another popular choice, is more prone to denting, but its color weathers well. It is very adaptable and most often used in seamless rain gutter systems. Aluminum is the most common product used today. The gutter holds more water than traditional wood gutters, and this is the product which is generally recommended.

Less frequently used materials include galvanized and stainless steel. Copper is also an attractive choice, but more expensive than the rest. Copper also requires a more expert installer. Wood is another material used for rain guttering, most often in restoration projects.

Type

The two main types of rain gutter systems are sectional and seamless. Sectional systems lend themselves more to do-it-yourself installations due to the high configurability of the parts. They are made up of either vinyl or aluminum sections that are fastened together.

A drawback of sectional rain gutters is that the joints are prone to developing leaks. Gutter add-ons, such as screens and filters, help these basic rain gutters stay clog free. A gutter topper is a covering which allows water to flow along a contoured “lip” which feeds into your rain gutter. This keeps debris and animals out of your rain gutter.

The second type of rain gutter system is the seamless rain gutter. This is a no-clog system which catches and routes water down and out while diverting leaves and debris to the ground. This type of rain gutter is quickly becoming a favorite choice due to its durability, seamless appearance and easy maintenance.

Gutter Covers

Gutter covers are used to help keep gutters clear of debris and they are getting better and better each generation. Initially, manufacturers produced galvanized, vinyl-coated metal or plastic screens. More recently, cover-like gutter guards have been introduced. Some snap into place; others roll out of the factory with gutter and cover molded into one piece. Unless you live in an area with few trees or you enjoy climbing up on a ladder and cleaning out gutters, you probably want to consider some kind of cover or guard.

Covered Gutter Protection System vs. Other Gutter Systems

Considering the extended number of gutter protection systems available, it is no surprise that choosing the right one for your home can prove to be a cumbersome and lengthy task. In order to help busy home owners make the right decision, we have set out to compare the various systems that can help protect your home from weather related damages.

In order to establish a standard by which we can measure the various gutter protection systems up against, we have compared the various systems relative to the system that is considered the best on the market.

Fully covered gutter systems provide superior protection from debris, and allow maximum water slow into the system, which helps avoid overflows that can lead to improper drainage around your home.

Many companies offer covered gutter systems, but be aware- not all covered gutters are created equal! A few important items to look for with covered gutters are:

Is the cover nailed to the roof’s shingles, or is it tucked under the drip edge to the roof? If it is nailed to the roof’s shingles, it can actually void the manufacturer’s warranty on your roof, and can cause roof leaks down the line.

Is the gutter cover perforated or solid? Perforations allow a slight slow-down in water flow, giving the water and the gutter cover an opportunity to “bond”, thus directing the full flow of water into the gutter trough.

And if aesthetics are important to you, do the gutters allow for a separate top and bottom color? If not, the gutters will be highly visible on your roof. If the system allows you to choose a separate gutter top color, you can match the top to your roof, and the trough to your trim or siding, providing a seamless look.

Below are some other systems on the market to compare. As with any major purchase for your home, take the time to learn about each system and then decide what’s right for you.

Mesh or Screen Gutter Covers

These metal coverings fit inside against the back of the gutter and across the top acting like a strainer and filter. This design is easy to install and less expensive than the solid types. However, while they reduce the frequency and difficulty of ongoing gutter cleaning, they do not eliminate it. Unsightly debris together with snow and ice can collect on top of the screen and cause it to collapse. Over time, there is also a chance for the screens to rust and stain face of gutter.

Gutter Filters

Sponge-like foam “space fillers” that let water drain through but keep leaves from building up in the bottom of the trough. These fillers do not have the capacity to handle heavy rain and water flow, and may cause overflow during heavy rain. Snow and ice can also settle into the foam, harboring the potential for ice damming, sagging and overflowing.

Solid Gutter Covers

Made of vinyl or aluminum, these solid gutter covers snap onto the top front of the gutter and slip under your shingles, altering roofline and appearance. They are nailed to your roof which pierces shingles, roof felt and decking, possibly voiding roof warranty or causing leaks. Gutter covers may also blow off in high wind conditions and due to the lack of support, they are very vulnerable to damage from weight of debris, snow, or ice.

Solid Gutter Covers with Slots

Most of the solid cover gutter guards rely on the principle of “water adhesion”. The water enters the gutter through slots or small holes located underneath a lip or on the vertical side. These gutters do not keep out all small twigs, dirt, asphalt roofing granules, and pine needles. They perform less well in very heavy rain falls or on steep roofs and may not be considered visually appealing.

Gutter Brushes

Most, but not all, leaves and large debris will pass over gutter brushes. Small items that get caught near the top of the gutter brush either blow away or decompose over time. However, over time, the dirt, small twigs and pine needles that do not pass through the gutter brush may create a layer of ‘gunk’ in the bottom of the gutter which may cause staining and require periodic gutter cleaning.
